More than 30 British nationals are among 5,000 people who remain missing after devastating floods in the Himalayas on 26 August. The floods, triggered by a glacial collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border, killed over 1,300 people.
Prajval Haldia, from Petts Wood in south-east London, has not heard from his parents, Pavan and Kavita, since the floods. They were last known to be at Gyirong Port, on the Tibet-Nepal border, on their way to Mount Kailash with a tour group.
Prajval has been in contact with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office but there is no information on his parents. He said he believes experienced people are doing important work in the region.
Sixteen people from the Sanatan Mandir temple in Coulsdon are also missing after a separate pilgrimage to Mount Kailash. Sachin Bagla, the temple manager, said prayer services are being held each evening for those missing and affected families.
