British student Alex Chui has become the most successful contestant in the history of the International Mathematical Olympiad, securing his seventh medal.

Alex Chui, a year 13 student at Tonbridge School, scored 100 per cent in this year's International Mathematical Olympiad.
He has won a total of seven medals at the IMO, five of which are gold.
No other contestant in the IMO's history, which began in 1959, has won a medal seven years in a row.

British student Alex Chui has set a new record at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), becoming the all-time most successful contestant. Last month, Chui, a year 13 student from Tonbridge School in Kent, achieved a perfect score in this year's event held in Shanghai.

This achievement earned him a gold medal, bringing his total IMO medal count to seven, with five of them being gold. The IMO, which has been running since 1959 and involves school-age contestants from over a hundred countries, has not seen any other participant win a medal seven years consecutively.

Chui's perfect score of 42/42 in this year's competition marks a personal best. He is due to study mathematics at Cambridge next term.
