A 21-year-old man was shot in a drive-by attack on a busy Brixton street that police have condemned as "indiscriminate violence" that could have harmed anyone nearby.
The victim was walking along Coldharbour Lane at around 7pm on Monday when a vehicle approached and shots were fired. He was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound but has since been discharged after his injuries were deemed not life-threatening.
No arrests have been made and Metropolitan Police are appealing for witnesses to the shooting, which happened on one of Brixton's main thoroughfares in south London. Detectives believe the busy location means multiple people may have seen the attack unfold.
The Met's description of the incident as "indiscriminate violence" underscores their concern that bystanders could easily have been caught up in the shooting. Such attacks often leave local communities shaken and fearful about their safety on familiar streets.
The incident adds to mounting concerns about gun crime across London, where police forces are frequently stretched thin whilst tackling violent offences. Community cooperation remains vital in solving these crimes and preventing future attacks.
Officers are conducting forensic examinations and reviewing CCTV footage from the area. They urge anyone with information, however minor, to come forward to help bring those responsible to justice.
