Jos Buttler has suggested that Brendon McCullum's removal as England's Test coach could benefit the team's World Cup prospects. McCullum, who was sacked from the Test role in July and replaced by Stephen Fleming, has continued to lead the white-ball squad.
Buttler, speaking on his 'For the Love of Cricket' podcast, believes the change allows McCullum to dedicate his full attention to the upcoming tournament in southern Africa next year. He noted that McCullum's focus is now solely on white-ball cricket, particularly one-day internationals, with the World Cup on the horizon.
The England white-ball team has had a strong summer, achieving 11 victories and only two defeats. This run included one-day international series wins against both India and Sri Lanka, providing a boost to the ODI setup.
Meanwhile, Buttler is currently out of action due to a hamstring injury and will miss the tri-series in Pakistan. His participation in the November tour of Australia is uncertain, which could mean missing several key ODIs during the World Cup preparation phase.
