Buzz Bingo owner explores sale amid tax hike warnings

ICG, the owner of Buzz Bingo, is exploring a sale of the UK's largest bingo hall operator, despite warnings from gambling bosses about a potential tax increase threatening the industry.

  • Asset manager ICG has appointed bankers to advise on discussions with potential buyers for Buzz Bingo.
  • Buzz Bingo saw an 11% revenue growth to £241m in the 2025 financial year.
  • Half of the 190,000 new retail customers Buzz Bingo gained last year were under 35.

ICG, the asset manager that owns Buzz Bingo, is exploring a sale of the company. Buzz Bingo is the UK's largest bingo hall operator, and ICG has appointed bankers to advise on discussions with potential buyers.

The Nottingham-based chain is seeking a new owner to provide investment, aiming to capitalise on increased interest in bingo among young people. Buzz Bingo reported that online trends have contributed to a resurgence in the game's popularity, especially among younger players looking for affordable entertainment.

Last year, Buzz Bingo saw admissions and revenue grow for the first time since 2007. The group's revenue increased by 11% to £241m in the 2025 financial year, driven by double-digit growth in its bingo halls and online games. Of the 190,000 new retail customers acquired last year, half were under 35.

The potential sale comes as the gambling industry warns the government about a proposed Budget tax increase. Chancellor John Healey has been urged to raise machine games duty from 20% to 40%, which could generate £458m. Buzz Bingo chief executive Dominic Mansour warned last month that such a tax hike would jeopardise the viability of bingo in the UK.

Why this matters: The potential sale of the UK's largest bingo chain and the proposed tax hike could significantly impact the future of the bingo industry and its operations across the country.
