A Volkswagen Beetle from 1972 has been transformed into a life-sized Hot Wheels model by Ray Ramsay, 64, who operates a workshop in Guyhirn, Cambridgeshire. The vehicle, named the Riddler, features an aerial made from a kitchen whisk, chrome trim from kitchen door handles, and a plastic roof dome from a school toilet ceiling.
Mr Ramsay's creation won the UK leg of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour, held at Silverstone in Northamptonshire. It will now compete against other vehicles globally for an international award.
Mattel, the manufacturer of Hot Wheels toy cars, will turn the winning design into its next miniature collectible. Mr Ramsay stated the project, which took four years, was inspired by 1960s US car models.
Mr Ramsay hopes to sell the Riddler after the competition final to raise funds for a cancer charity, following his diagnosis with prostate cancer.
