A campaigner in Hedon, East Yorkshire, has successfully persuaded a broadband company to remove an unused telegraph pole from the town. Joyce Whittle welcomed the decision by MS3 to remove a redundant pole from Church Lane, near St Augustine's Church.
However, MS3 stated it has no current plans to remove any more of its network infrastructure, which serves over 23,000 customers. The company said the Hedon pole was removed for operational reasons.
Ms Whittle believes telecoms companies have been allowed to install poles too easily under government rules and hopes more unused poles will be removed. Paul Brayford, from Molescroft parish council, also called for poles to be taken down, citing KCOM's underground network now being accessible to other providers.
CityFibre, which acquired Connexin's infrastructure last year, is reviewing the network it inherited. A spokesperson said the company has carried out work on 200 poles and continues to review how to simplify existing infrastructure.
