Blaby District Council has revoked the alcohol licence for Candy Corner 1 in Lutterworth Road, Leicestershire. The decision was made by councillors in a private meeting on Tuesday evening, 25 August 2026.
The council stated that the review of the licence was prompted by a closure order and a request from Leicestershire Police. Among the concerns were allegations of alcohol sales to underage customers, the shop's failure to display its licence, and not retaining CCTV coverage for the required period. Potential disorder associated with the shop was also reported.
Candy Corner 1 is currently subject to a three-month closure order, secured by the council. The revocation means the shop will be unable to sell alcohol when it reopens in October.
The shop has been linked to Twana Jamal Khdir, an Iraqi national who was arrested and charged with immigration offences. Khdir pleaded guilty to entering the UK without valid entry clearance and is remanded in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for 5 October.
