Real Madrid secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Elche on Tuesday night, thanks to a late goal from forward Carlos Espí. The 21-year-old, who is also Real Madrid coach José Mourinho's flatmate, scored in the 88th minute after coming on as a substitute.
Madrid had initially taken a comfortable 2-0 lead within the first half-hour. However, Elche mounted a comeback with goals from Abiel Osorio in the 71st minute and Fer Niño in the 83rd minute, levelling the score at 2-2.
Espí's decisive goal came after Jude Bellingham's run and pass released Kylian Mbappé, who then laid the ball off for Espí to score. This marks Espí's second crucial goal of the season, having also netted an injury-time winner on the opening weekend.
The forward, who was largely unknown a year ago, scored 11 goals in 25 games for Levante last season, helping them avoid relegation. He has now scored twice in 42 minutes for Real Madrid, contributing four points.
