Thomas Carty's team has claimed that "two illegal blows" and "loose ropes" were responsible for the Irishman toppling out of the ring in a bizarre first-round no-contest against David Allen. The incident occurred at Croke Park on Saturday during the co-main event before Katie Taylor's victory.
The fight lasted only one minute and 22 seconds, ending after Carty, 30, took a blow to the back of the head and was unable to continue due to a suspected concussion. A statement from Carty's team detailed that a second illegal blow caused him to momentarily lose balance, leading him to reach for the ropes, which then gave way and propelled him head-first out of the ring, causing him to strike a ringside table.
Carty is now back home and healthy after spending time in hospital for a brain scan. Meanwhile, David Allen, 34, stated on his YouTube channel that he plans to "speak to the boxing board and ask if it can be overturned to a win." Allen claimed he was "a bit too strong and rough" for Carty and that the punch was not intentional, aimed instead to "clip him round the ear."
