American artist Ce Roser, aged 101, is making her European debut this month at London's VeneKlasen gallery. This makes her the first American artist to have a European debut as a centenarian.
Roser was a co-founder of the Women in the Arts Foundation, established in 1971 in New York. The foundation organised protests, including closing 53rd Street in front of the Museum of Modern Art, to advocate for female artists.
The activism led to a 1973 exhibition at the New York Cultural Center, titled 'Women Choose Women', which featured 111 artists and used a democratic system for artist selection.
Roser, who was in her 40s at the time of the protests, continues to paint in her New York studio, where she has worked for over 70 years.
