The Charity Commission has opened a statutory inquiry into Cumbria Community Homes, a charity that provides accommodation to vulnerable adults in the Cumbria region. The Commission has also taken protective action, restricting the charity's transactions and preventing it from disposing of property without the regulator's consent.
The inquiry, which began on 3 September 2026, follows a regulatory compliance case opened in December 2024 due to concerns about the charity's management and administration. Regulatory concerns highlighted include the absence of a functioning trustee board and the late filing of financial information.
The inquiry will examine the charity's administration, governance, and management, specifically looking at whether there are enough willing and capable trustees, the financial management and expenditure of funds, and any conflicts of interest or connected-party transactions. The scope of the inquiry may be extended if further regulatory issues emerge.
