The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, set up in memory of Sophie Lancaster, a 20-year-old who was brutally murdered in 2007 due to her appearance, has chosen to remember all victims of hate crime as the killer of the teenager is set to be released from prison.
The foundation was established by Sophie's mother, Sylvia Lancaster, who has dedicated her life to raising awareness about hate crime and promoting inclusivity.
According to the Ministry of Justice, Robert Maltby, the man who killed Sophie, is set to be released from prison after serving a minimum of 14 years, having been sentenced to life in 2008.
The Sophie Lancaster Foundation has stated that while they welcome the prospect of rehabilitation, they will not be celebrating the release of Maltby, but rather choosing to remember all victims of hate crime, past and present.
The foundation's message is clear: 'we will not be forgetting the thousands of people who have been murdered or maimed because of hate and intolerance'.
