OpenAI has introduced an Apple Messages plugin for ChatGPT, allowing users to connect their Messages inbox with the chatbot. This integration enables users to sort, analyse, or edit their messages directly from ChatGPT.
The plugin also supports professional use through Codex and ChatGPT Work. Users can ask ChatGPT to delete messages, draft and send messages on their behalf, or search message history.
OpenAI stated to Bloomberg that the plugin operates locally on a user's machine and does not create an index of all messages. However, the exact implications of this are not immediately clear. The company encourages users to monitor ChatGPT's actions when sending messages and advises against persistent approval, warning that it removes the final review opportunity before a message is sent.
