Chelsea have reached a £7.5m agreement to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez. The Argentina international is set to sign a two-year contract, with an option for an additional year.

The move comes after Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso prioritised a new goalkeeper following Robert Sánchez's performance against Fulham. Martínez had fallen out of favour at Villa after the club acquired Zion Suzuki.

The arrival of Martínez, who will turn 34 next week, raises questions about Sánchez's future, as sources suggest he is unlikely to accept losing his position as the number one goalkeeper. Chelsea are also reportedly considering a loan move for Mike Penders, who was expected to challenge for the top spot this season.

In other transfer news, Chelsea are expecting Manchester City to make an offer for midfielder Enzo Fernández within the next 48 hours. Fernández was left out of the Carabao Cup tie against Luton, and sources at Chelsea maintain that a deal is not close, with no communication yet from City. Chelsea are firm on selling Fernández only on their own terms, with suggestions the price could be higher as the transfer window nears its close on Tuesday night.
