Chiesa 'Happy' at Liverpool But Hints at Desire for More Premier League Action

Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa has stated he is 'happy' at the club amidst ongoing transfer speculation. The Italian international, however, hinted at a desire for a more consistent role in the Premier League.

  • Federico Chiesa insists he is happy at Liverpool despite speculation.
  • He has started only one Premier League game in two seasons and scored five goals in 50 appearances.
  • Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus in 2024 for £12.5m and is contracted until 2028.
  • He scored in the first pre-season friendly under new manager Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa has publicly affirmed his contentment at Anfield, stating he is "happy" at the club despite persistent rumours surrounding his future. The Italian international's comments follow a period of limited Premier League starts since his arrival from Juventus in 2024, leading to speculation about his long-term position under the new managerial setup.

Chiesa, who is contracted to Liverpool until 2028 after a £12.5 million move, has made 50 appearances across all competitions over two seasons, netting five goals. However, only one of those appearances has been a start in the Premier League. In June, he had indicated a potential need to "look elsewhere" if he didn't find "consistency in the Premier League."

Speaking to reporters after scoring in Liverpool's 4-2 pre-season friendly victory over Sunderland – the first match under new manager Andoni Iraola – Chiesa reiterated his commitment. "Right now, at the moment, I am happy here at Liverpool. I love the club, I love the fans, I love everything," he stated. "I am doing the best I can to have a chance here - and then we will see. At the minute, the only thing I am thinking about is Liverpool."

Addressing the change in management, with Iraola taking over from Arne Slot in June, the 28-year-old acknowledged a potential "new chapter." While he expressed uncertainty about whether it constitutes a truly fresh start, he emphasised his dedication: "There is a new manager and I have to focus on that." Chiesa also reflected on his previous season, stating, "Last year, I felt ready for a bigger role, then it depended on the coach whether he wanted me to play or not. Of course I wanted to play more but it is what it is."

His comments signal a desire for increased involvement in the upcoming season, suggesting that while he remains committed to Liverpool, consistent playing time, particularly in the league, will be crucial for his future aspirations. The pre-season period under Iraola will likely be pivotal in determining Chiesa's role and whether he can secure the regular starts he appears to crave.
