Multiple people, including children, were injured in a shooting at an elementary school in Bend, Oregon, police confirmed during a press conference on Thursday. The suspected gunman is dead, according to Bend police spokesperson Sheila Miller.
Police responded to reports of an active shooting at Silver Rail elementary school on Thursday afternoon. A shot was reportedly fired into a car around 12:59pm, with police arriving on the scene at about 1:02pm.
Moments after police arrived, they learned the suspected assailant had been shot and killed in the school, though it remains unclear by whom. The shooter's identity is also unknown.
At least two people have been hospitalised. Police stated that the full scope of victims and their statuses was not immediately clear, nor were their identities or ages, but confirmed children were among those injured.
Emergency officials were working to evacuate the elementary school room by room. Oregon's governor, Tina Kotek, said on social media she was monitoring the situation, and the FBI is assisting local authorities with the investigation.
