Telford memorial garden helps families affected by baby loss

A memorial garden in Telford, created by bereaved parents, is providing a space for families to remember their babies and share their experiences.

  • The Little Footprints in the Sky memorial garden opened in April at Jubilee Woods in Dawley Bank, Telford.
  • More than 80 leaf-shaped memorial plaques have been added to a steel tree in the garden since its opening.
  • Founders Shaun Pickering and Katie Stuart set up the Pickering Foundation after losing their baby, Sky, in 2024.

A memorial garden in Telford is offering a dedicated space for families to remember babies they have lost and to connect with others who have shared experiences. The Little Footprints in the Sky memorial garden, located at Jubilee Woods in Dawley Bank, opened in April.

Emily Kinber, from Crudgington, whose daughter Hallie died four hours after birth, said the garden has given her the confidence to speak about her daughter. She described the space as helping to break down the "taboo" around baby loss.

The garden was created by Shaun Pickering and Katie Stuart, who founded the Pickering Foundation after losing their baby, Sky, in 2024. Shaun Pickering stated he was surprised there was no existing dedicated space for families affected by baby loss in the area.

Since its opening, over 80 leaf-shaped memorial plaques have been placed on a steel tree in the garden. Plaques dating back to 1964 have been added. The site has been further developed with a decking area and additional planting after securing a National Lottery grant over the summer.

Why this matters: The garden provides a dedicated space for remembrance and community for families affected by baby loss, addressing a perceived lack of such facilities in the area.
