Children reportedly climbed off a rollercoaster at Pleasurewood Hills theme park near Lowestoft, Suffolk, on Saturday after parents said they feared it had caught fire. An eyewitness described a smell of burning while children were on the Egg-Spress family rollercoaster.
Wayne Lennox, who had two children on the ride, stated they were "traumatised" after a tunnel where the Egg-Spress had stopped began to fill with smoke. Another parent, who wished to remain anonymous, said the ride stopped at the peak of a tunnelled incline section, with its wheels continuing to spin, creating sparks and smoke.
Pleasurewood Hills confirmed to the East Anglian Daily Times (EADT) that people had climbed off the ride but denied there had been a fire. Suffolk Fire Service confirmed they were not called to the attraction.
Mr Lennox recounted his children running from the tunnel screaming that the rollercoaster was on fire. He said adults formed a chain to help bring five or six children down from the track's peak.
