Chiltern Railways services are set to transfer into public ownership this Sunday, 20 September 2026. The change aims to deliver a more reliable service across the network, connecting London Marylebone with communities in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, and the West Midlands.
From December, passengers are expected to benefit from 25 additional daily services, which will provide 10,000 extra seats each weekday. Plans also include upgraded stations and improved on-board WiFi.
Following the transfer, passengers whose trains are cancelled will be able to use another operator's service without additional cost. This marks Chiltern Railways as the sixth operator whose services have moved into public ownership under the current government.
