SIA Licence Training Requirements Updated for Security Operatives

New training requirements are in effect for those applying for or renewing SIA close protection, door supervisor, and security guard licences.
- From April 1, 2026, close protection licence renewals require a refresher qualification and a Level 3 first aid qualification.
- From April 1, 2025, door supervisor and security guard licence renewals require a refresher qualification and an Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.
- Updated qualifications or top-up training are now required for new and renewed close protection, door supervisor, and security guard licences.
Changes to the training required for Security Industry Authority (SIA) licences have been introduced for close protection operatives, door supervisors, and security guards.
As of April 1, 2026, individuals renewing a close protection licence must complete a refresher qualification. Before undertaking this refresher training, a Level 3 first aid qualification, such as First Aid at Work (FAW) or equivalent, is mandatory.
For door supervisors and security guards, a refresher qualification has been required for licence renewal since April 1, 2025. An up-to-date Emergency First Aid at Work qualification, or equivalent, must be held before taking this refresher training.
Additionally, updated close protection qualifications were introduced in 2022, and new qualifications for door supervisors and security guards were introduced in 2021. Applicants and those renewing these licences must now hold the new qualification or complete top-up training.
