Director Christopher Nolan has shared that David Lynch's 1997 film 'Lost Highway' was an influence on his 2000 breakout movie 'Memento'. Nolan admitted that he initially found 'Lost Highway' "laborious" and "heavy going" on a first viewing.
However, Nolan recalled thinking about the film for weeks afterwards, remembering it "like I was remembering one of my own dreams." He noted that Lynch "figured out how to take dream logic and the experience of dreaming and make a sort of cinematic proxy for that for the audience."
Nolan's latest film, 'The Odyssey', which stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, has achieved considerable success. It has become one of Nolan's best-ever openings and the top live-action opening of 2026 to date. Following its release, Nolan has expressed a desire to make a horror movie, stating that 'The Odyssey' "very much whets my appetite for more."
Despite this interest, Nolan has indicated that his next film will not be released for "at least" three years. He mentioned hitting the "limits" of his stamina during the production of 'The Odyssey'.
