Cinema projectionist's Hollywood poster collection fetches over £60,000

A collection of around 100 Hollywood movie posters, saved by a cinema projectionist for 40 years, has been auctioned for more than £60,000 in Woking, Surrey.

  • The collection, which included posters featuring Clint Eastwood and Audrey Hepburn, exceeded its estimated price of £35,000.
  • A British Quad poster for the first James Bond film, Dr No, sold for £16,900, surpassing its estimated price of £5,000 to £8,000.
  • The auction took place at Ewbank's auction house in Woking.

A collection of Hollywood movie posters amassed over 40 years by cinema projectionist Robin Langford has sold for a total of £62,700 at an auction in Woking, Surrey. The collection, featuring around 100 artworks, significantly surpassed its estimated value of approximately £35,000.

Among the lots were 60s and 70s British Quad posters, including one for the 1962 James Bond film, Dr No. This particular poster fetched £16,900, exceeding its estimated price range of £5,000 to £8,000. Other Bond film posters, such as those for From Russia With Love and Thunderball, were also auctioned.

Mr Langford, who began helping at his local cinema after leaving school, would collect new posters weekly and carefully store them. His daughter, Pat Walker, stated that he would have been proud that his collection would now be enjoyed by others.
