The administrators of Claire's Accessories, the jewellery retailer that collapsed for a second time in January, have billed nearly £10m for their work. Some bosses have charged more than £1,500 per hour.
Interpath, the administrators for the original collapse, initially charged creditors around £4m. Following the retailer's second collapse, Interpath requested an additional £3.2m for extra work, bringing their total bill to over £7.2m. The consultancy stated that a larger and more senior administration team was maintained for a longer period than anticipated, as they had to continue trading the business for 15 weeks, overseeing over 2,000 employees across approximately 300 shops.
Will Wright, Interpath's UK chief executive, and Chris Pole, head of its Midlands and South team, increased their hourly billing rate from £1,410 to £1,515 from April. Across Interpath's team, the average hourly rate charged was £909, with total time costs exceeding £1m.
These costs are in addition to those incurred by Kroll, the consultancy overseeing the administration of Cauki Ltd, the company Modella Capital established to purchase Claire's. Kroll has logged time costs of approximately £2.2m at an average rate of £510 per hour. The total administration costs for Claire's Accessories could exceed £7.4m, though creditors have not yet approved these pay deals.
