Film producers are increasingly turning to public domain works to create low-budget horror films. This trend follows previous adaptations of characters such as Winnie-the-Pooh, Bambi, and Steamboat Willie.
A horror remake of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, titled Wuthering Heights: The House of the Damned, is scheduled for release on digital platforms in three weeks. The film reportedly features Cathy's ghost haunting Heathcliff, leading him to murder others.
In the coming weeks and months, various films and television shows based on other classic novels are expected. These include adaptations of Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Treasure Island, Mrs Dalloway, The Age of Innocence, and The Sun Also Rises. Babar the Elephant is also set to enter the public domain in January.
