Jonny Clayton has clinched his first ranking title of the year, overcoming Luke Humphries in the final of the Swiss Darts Trophy. The Welshman triumphed with an 8-4 victory in the Euro Tour event.
Clayton's path to the final included wins against Rob Cross (6-4), Karel Sedlacek (6-2), and world number three Gian van Veen (7-4). World number two Humphries, who had beaten Krzysztof Ratajski (6-0), Cristo Reyes (6-3), and Mensur Suljovic (7-4) in Basel, was aiming to add to his recent World Grand Prix success.
Despite almost identical averages, with Humphries at 101.75 and Clayton at 101.68, it was Clayton's superior finishing that proved decisive. He secured the win with a run of four successive legs from 4-4, achieving a checkout success rate of 61.54% compared to Humphries' 22.22%.
