The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has responded to a consultation by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) regarding consumer protection for home upgrade schemes. The CMA's response backs DESNZ proposals designed to create a more accessible consumer experience and enhance oversight.
Key elements supported by the CMA include the establishment of an independent ombudsman, a unified complaints and case-management system, and improved financial safeguards for consumers. These measures are intended to ensure effective arrangements for all consumers, including those in vulnerable circumstances and those whose upgrades are not government-funded.
The CMA's position is that these changes will help consumers gain greater confidence when investing in home improvements and upgrade technologies.
