CMA investigating three waste management firms over suspected anti-competitive conduct

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating Bagnall & Morris (Waste Services) Ltd, Gaskells (North West) Limited, and Ash Waste Services Limited for suspected anti-competitive conduct.

  • The CMA launched its investigation on 24 June 2025.
  • The investigation is being conducted under Chapter I of the Competition Act 1998.
  • No final decision has been made, and the CMA has not yet issued a statement of objections.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has confirmed it is investigating three waste management companies for suspected anti-competitive conduct. The firms under scrutiny are Bagnall & Morris (Waste Services) Ltd, Gaskells (North West) Limited, and Ash Waste Services Limited.

The investigation, launched on 24 June 2025, falls under Chapter I of the Competition Act 1998. At this stage, the CMA has not determined if there is enough evidence to issue a statement of objections to any of the parties involved.

The CMA has clarified that not all cases lead to a statement of objections, and no assumption should be made that the Competition Act 1998 has been infringed. If a statement of objections is issued, the addressee(s) will have the chance to make written and oral representations before a final decision is reached.
