Residents of two streets in Coalsnaughton, a Clackmannanshire village, have been told their homes will be demolished due to mining subsidence. Officials from the local council and the Mining Remediation Authority (MRA) informed residents on Thursday evening that 60 houses on Benbuck View and Dunmoss View would have to be knocked down.
Remediation work is planned for two other affected streets to make them safe. Homeowners will be offered compensation, though some residents expressed uncertainty regarding the amount they would receive.
An eight-week investigation by the MRA confirmed that the ground movement, which caused cracks in roads, paths, and homes, was linked to historical mining work. A total of 256 residents from four streets in the former mining village were evacuated after the ground movement was discovered in May.
