Colman's Mustard, a brand with a long history in Norwich, has been put up for sale by its parent company, Unilever. This decision comes ahead of a proposed merger between Unilever and the American food giant McCormick, a deal believed to be worth £48bn.
A Unilever spokesperson stated that the marketing of the Colman's brand and assets to potential buyers is intended to proactively address potential competition concerns related to the planned combination of Unilever Foods and McCormick.
The wider merger will result in McCormick taking control of several well-known brands, including Hellmann's, Marmite, Knorr, and Pot Noodle. McCormick already owns French's, a significant rival mustard brand. Following the merger, Unilever plans to concentrate on its home and personal care portfolio, which includes brands such as Dove, Persil, and Lynx.
Discussions regarding the sale are ongoing, and operations for the brand are continuing as usual.
