Six airports in western Colombia have suspended operations today, 10 August 2026, after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the region. The civil aeronautics agency confirmed that airports serving Pereira, Manizales, Quibdo, Armenia, Cartago, and Buenaventura are affected.
The powerful earthquake caused serious damage and prompted evacuations. In the city of Cali, at least 20 buildings collapsed, and mayor Alejandro Eder stated that people were trapped inside. Rescue teams from Bogota and Medellin have been requested to assist.
The epicentre of the quake was in San Jose Del Palmar, Choco region, approximately 250 miles (400km) west of Colombia’s capital, Bogota. Choco governor Nubia Córdoba reported injuries and significant building damage in the regional capital.
