Newspaper columnist and broadcaster Rod Liddle has died at the age of 66. He passed away on Sunday evening at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough after a short illness.

Liddle was a columnist for The Sun and The Sunday Times, and also wrote a weekly column for The Spectator. He was also a broadcaster with a show on Times Radio and a former editor of BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

His children, Wilder, Tyler and Emmy, expressed their sadness, describing their father as their guide "on how to live an extraordinary life". Rebekah Brooks, CEO of News UK, called Liddle "an inimitable journalistic force" who "challenged conventional thinking and left an indelible mark on British journalism."

Liddle was known for his provocative views and often split opinion. In 2010, the Press Complaints Commission upheld a complaint against him regarding a claim he made on The Spectator website.
