The writer and broadcaster Rod Liddle has died at the age of 66. He passed away at a hospital in Middlesbrough on Sunday evening following a short illness.
Liddle was known for his columns in The Sunday Times, The Spectator, and The Sun, and previously served as editor of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. More recently, he was a broadcaster on Times Radio on Saturdays.
His children, Wilder, Tyler, and Emmy, stated they were “very saddened and shocked at the sudden passing of our wonderful father.” They added that he raised them “to be inquisitive, brave and always humorous.”
Tributes have been paid by colleagues, including News UK executive Rebekah Brooks, who described Liddle as an “inimitable journalistic force, brilliant, provocative and immensely talented.” Ben Taylor, editor of The Sunday Times, noted that Liddle “had a wonderful way with words and used his unique talent to speak for the readers.”
