Companies House sign-in changes with GOV.UK One Login becoming main option

The sign-in screen for the Find and update company information service is changing in late August, with GOV.UK One Login becoming the primary sign-in method.

  • GOV.UK One Login will become the main sign-in option for the Find and update company information service.
  • New users will require a GOV.UK One Login to access Companies House services.
  • Existing users can continue to sign in with current details for now, but all users will eventually need to move to GOV.UK One Login.

The sign-in screen for the Companies House 'Find and update company information' service is set to change in late August 2026. GOV.UK One Login will become the main sign-in option for users accessing the service.

While existing users can continue to sign in with their current Companies House account details, this option will be located further down the sign-in page. All new users, however, will be required to use a GOV.UK One Login to access Companies House services.

Companies House has stated that in the future, all users will need to transition to GOV.UK One Login, with prior notice to be provided. This change specifically affects the sign-in process and does not involve identity verification.

GOV.UK One Login enables access to various government services using a single email address and password, incorporating multi-factor authentication via an authenticator app or SMS for enhanced security. The move to GOV.UK One Login for online services began in autumn 2024.

For teams currently sharing a Companies House account, it is advised to plan for managing access when GOV.UK One Login becomes compulsory. Each GOV.UK One Login must be linked to an individual with their own email address and phone number. To prevent disruption, each person requiring access should create their own Companies House account linked to their own GOV.UK One Login, as sharing an account after linking could trigger security controls.

Why this matters: The change aims to enhance the security of Companies House accounts and streamline access to various government services through a single login.

What this means for you: If you are a new user of Companies House services, you will need a GOV.UK One Login. If you are part of a team sharing a Companies House account, you should plan for each individual to create their own account linked to a GOV.UK One Login to avoid potential access issues.
