Conor Oberst, known as the frontman of Bright Eyes, has announced his first short film, titled 'Invention 13'. The film is scheduled to premiere on September 26 at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles.

'Invention 13' features a voiceover by Phoebe Bridgers, Oberst's former bandmate from Better Oblivion Community Center. The film also stars actors Emory Cohen and Olivia Howard, with an appearance by pro skater Nelly Morville.

The narrative of 'Invention 13' centres on a pianist's struggle to master Bach’s 'notoriously intricate 'Invention 13'' while facing 'strange obstacles'. Oberst, who co-directed the film with Shawn Foree, commented on Instagram that "Music is an exorcism. Sometimes it won’t come out." Bright Eyes bandmate Nathaniel Walcott has composed the score for the film.
