Scarlets have clinched their first United Rugby Championship (URC) win of the season, overcoming Benetton 27-26 in a dramatic encounter. A 78th-minute penalty from Wales fly-half Sam Costelow sealed the victory, spoiling former Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac's return to Llanelli.
Nigel Davies' side mounted a significant comeback after trailing 21-7 at half-time. Benetton had established their lead with first-half tries from Siua Maile, Onisi Ratave, and Michele Lamaro, despite an early Scarlets try from Sam Lousi.
The introduction of number eight Fletcher Anderson and scrum-half Gareth Davies in the second half proved pivotal for Scarlets. Wales wing Ellis Mee scored two tries, and full-back Blair Murray, who was named player of the match, also crossed the whitewash. Italy wing Louis Lynagh briefly regained the lead for Benetton before Costelow's decisive kick.
Scarlets will now face a URC double-header in South Africa later this month, following their Challenge Cup campaign opener against Newcastle next weekend.
