A married couple in their 70s has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal shooting of their son-in-law, a New York Times engineer, in a suburban Bay Area park. Jonathan McKinsey, 40, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in a park in Dublin, California, a city approximately 35 miles east of San Francisco.
Police identified the suspected shooters as Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77, who are McKinsey's in-laws. They were arrested shortly after the shooting, which occurred in broad daylight. Witnesses reportedly told police that the suspects were still in the area, and CBS News reported that witnesses claimed both suspects wore masks and each took a turn shooting the victim.
McKinsey, who had been the head of engineering for the New York Times's games department for nearly four years, was pronounced dead at the scene. An arraignment for the arrested couple is scheduled for Wednesday. Police have not indicated a motive for the shooting, though court records cited in local media reports show McKinsey and his wife had been involved in a legal dispute concerning child custody and allegations of domestic and child abuse.
