Premier League newcomers Coventry City have completed the club-record signing of Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi. The 20-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the Sky Blues.
Coventry is believed to have paid Danish side Nordsjaelland a fee of 27m euros (£23.1m), with an additional 3m euros (£2.5m) in add-ons. Yirenkyi becomes Coventry's fifth summer signing as Frank Lampard leads the club back into the top flight after a 25-year absence.
Yirenkyi, who made his international debut in May 2025, played at this summer's World Cup and scored a stoppage-time winner for the Black Stars against Panama. He expressed his eagerness to learn, stating, "When I spoke to the head coach about the plans and the style, it's something I really like, and I look forward to learning from him."
Danish journalist Nicklas Degn described Yirenkyi as an "extremely exciting player" who has been "touted as the next big thing." Degn added that Yirenkyi was one of the best players in the Danish Superliga last season and is highly regarded for his versatility, having played at right-back for both club and country.
