Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Argentina goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from Marseille for £1.7m. The 34-year-old has signed a two-year deal, marking his return to the Etihad Stadium, where he previously spent the 2016-17 season without making a first-team appearance.

Rulli is set to be an understudy to number one Gianluigi Donnarumma. His arrival follows the departure of England goalkeeper James Trafford, who joined Leeds earlier this week in a deal reportedly worth up to £45m.

The Argentine has won eight caps for his country and was part of the squads that secured the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa America. He famously scored a penalty and then saved one in Villarreal's 2021 Europa League final victory against Manchester United.

Why this matters: This transfer strengthens Manchester City's goalkeeping squad following a recent departure.
