Guardian journalist Ewan Murray and Sky Sports Golf commentator Ewen Murray have spoken about the ongoing confusion caused by their similar names, which has led to 15 years of mistaken identity.
The mix-up began in early 2011 when an email intended for Ewen Murray, regarding his Sky Sports commentary on Tiger Woods, was sent to Ewan Murray of the Guardian. Ewen Murray recalled his comments about Woods's behaviour on a putting surface in Dubai, stating he knew there would be trouble.
The two Murrays, who are almost three decades apart in age, both joined Twitter in October 2010, further intensifying the confusion. Social media criticism, and occasional praise, meant for Sky's Ewen Murray frequently reached Ewan Murray.
Ewen Murray, now 71, started his broadcasting career in 1990 and intends to continue commentating for some time. He finds the mistaken identity humorous, noting that others, including golfer Darren Clarke, have also found Ewan's responses to the misdirected messages amusing.
