Coventry, Tottenham, and Aston Villa Face Early Season Struggles

Coventry City are the only Premier League team without a point after four games, while Tottenham Hotspur have yet to score, and Aston Villa have secured just one point.

  • Coventry City, in their first Premier League season since 2001, are the only team without a point after four games and have not scored.
  • Tottenham Hotspur have failed to score in their first four league games, a club first, but have two points from draws.
  • Aston Villa have one point from their opening four matches, a point fewer than at this stage last season.

Coventry City, returning to the Premier League for the first time since 2001, are currently the only team in the league without a point after four games. Frank Lampard's side has also yet to score a goal this season, following defeats including a 1-0 loss to Hull and a 5-0 thrashing by Brighton.

Historically, Coventry are the eighth promoted team to lose their first four Premier League games. Of the previous seven, only Southampton in 2012-13 avoided relegation. However, eight of the 18 teams overall who lost their first four games in a Premier League campaign have stayed up, with Everton being the most recent in 2024-25.

Tottenham Hotspur are also experiencing a difficult start, failing to score in their first four league games for the first time in the club's history. Despite this, they have secured two points from goalless draws against Nottingham Forest and Everton. Five previous teams, excluding Spurs and Coventry this season, failed to score in their first four Premier League games and none of them were relegated.

Aston Villa have collected just one point from their opening four matches, a goalless draw against promoted Hull. This leaves them in the relegation zone, with defeats to Brighton, Arsenal, and Forest. Villa's first league goal of the campaign came from Alysson's equaliser against Forest.
