James Jobson, a 62-year-old cleaner from Costessey, was arrested by Norfolk Police on suspicion of leaking asylum seeker addresses. He was charged with misconduct in public office, but the case against him has since been dropped.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has issued an apology to Mr Jobson and his family, acknowledging a mistake that delayed his release from prison, where he was held on remand. The CPS stated they were alerted to an inaccuracy in the notice sent to the prison and worked to rectify it.
Norfolk Police stated that further examination of material and inquiries with Serco, Mr Jobson's employer, identified information that undermined the case, leading to the discontinuation of proceedings. The force denies police misconduct in their investigation.
Mr Jobson's family reported that he was too distraught to speak to the media. Norfolk Police are continuing their investigation into who is behind The HMO Inspector Facebook account, which was still posting updates after Mr Job Jobson's arrest.
