Crystal Palace are set to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu on a free transfer following a successful trial. The Japan international's signing is understood to be progressing ahead of the new season.

Palace head coach Pierre Sage was tasked with deciding on the versatile 27-year-old defender. Tomiyasu is viewed as a potential option to play on the left side of a three-central-defender formation Sage plans to use next season.

The club is also considering a move for 32-year-old winger Solly March, who left Brighton at the end of last season. March has been recommended to Palace, with internal discussions taking place at Selhurst Park.

Palace are looking to strengthen their defensive options after first-choice central defender Maxence Lacroix joined Chelsea. Tomiyasu's recent career has been affected by knee issues, and while Palace are convinced of his ability, they want to ensure his fitness.
