  • Financing for Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park main stand redevelopment is not completely secured.
  • The project aims to increase stadium capacity from 25,400 to 34,000 seats.
  • The construction, announced in 2017, is five years beyond its initial completion date.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has confirmed that the financing for the club's new main stand redevelopment at Selhurst Park has not been completely secured. The Premier League club plans to expand its home ground to 34,000 seats, up from 25,400, featuring an all-glass-fronted main stand.

Parish stated that the club is exploring various funding options and is in discussions with banks. He attributed the delay partly to managing construction, processing inflation, and efforts to reduce costs. The chairman also noted that funds are prioritised for the team, which has impacted the stadium project's progress.

The construction, initially announced in 2017, is now five years past its planned completion date. Parish mentioned reviewing materials and making slight design changes to manage the material cost, which he described as a significant issue due to inflation. Demolition and enabling works have already commenced.

Why this matters: The redevelopment would make Selhurst Park the 15th largest football ground in England, aligning with a broader trend of venue upgrades across English football.
