Olympic gold medallist Katy Marchant has announced her retirement from elite cycling. The 33-year-old secured gold alongside Emma Finucane and Sophie Capewell in the women’s team sprint at the 2024 Paris Games, a year in which she also claimed world and European titles.
Marchant stated, “I’ve achieved more than I could ever have dreamed of achieving.” This decision comes only a few months after she had expressed a goal of competing at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Reflecting on her choice, Marchant said, “I’m incredibly proud of where I’ve got to and what I’ve done. I just don’t want to make those choices any more to keep doing what it takes to get to LA.” She also noted her pride in helping to build the Great Britain squad and paving the way for mothers in sport.
