The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is set to reduce the fees for its checks and the Update Service, with the changes taking effect from Monday, 5 October 2026. This reduction will apply across all DBS products and services.
The greatest fee reduction will be seen by individuals applying for an Enhanced check. The DBS, which is funded by the fees it charges, reviews its fees annually to ensure they reflect the cost of delivery, as required by Managing Public Money.
The new fees have received approval from the DBS board, the Home Office, HM Treasury, and the Minister for Safeguarding and Violence Against Women and Girls. Legal effect will be given to these changes through a statutory instrument, which was laid before Parliament today, 9 September 2026.
The DBS has stated that this fee reduction will not impact the standard or rigour of its checks or the quality of service provided. Registered Bodies and Responsible Organisations are advised to update their systems and customer-facing information to reflect the new fees before 5 October 2026. These organisations may charge an additional administration fee, which the DBS does not regulate.
