Veteran boxer Derek Chisora has confirmed he is not retiring and plans to return to the ring in December. The 42-year-old Briton stated on Tuesday that he believes he will fight Murat Gassiev.
Chisora's last fight, a loss to Deontay Wilder in April, was promoted as his 50th and final bout. However, Chisora has since refused to confirm his retirement, saying, "I never said I was retired. They (the organisers) said '50 last dance'."
The planned December contest against Gassiev could take place in either London or Manchester. Chisora indicated that two belts, including one currently held by Gassiev, might be contested.
Gassiev is currently the WBA 'super' heavyweight world champion, though his status is reportedly unclear following claims that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua would fight for his world title in their 11 December contest. Gassiev himself expressed uncertainty on Tuesday regarding his WBA world champion status.
Chisora's news conference was hosted by the IBA, a body that lost its status as amateur boxing's governing body in 2023 but has since been staging professional bouts. Gassiev's recent fights have been under the IBA's banner.
