Derek Chisora to fight Murat Gassiev for world title in December

Derek Chisora has announced he will return to the ring in December to fight Murat Gassiev for a world title, despite his April bout being billed as his last.

  • Derek Chisora will fight Murat Gassiev in December, with the location to be decided between London or Manchester.
  • The fight is expected to have two belts on the line, including the IBA and the one Gassiev holds.
  • Gassiev's status as WBA 'super' heavyweight world champion is reportedly uncertain due to a potential Fury-Joshua title fight.

Derek Chisora has confirmed he is not retired and plans to fight Murat Gassiev for a world title in December. The 42-year-old's previous fight against Deontay Wilder in April was promoted as his 50th and final bout.

Chisora announced his return at an IBA news conference, stating, "December will be me versus Gassiev." He added that the location for the fight, which will put two belts on the line, is yet to be decided between London and Manchester.

Murat Gassiev is currently the WBA 'super' heavyweight world champion. However, reports suggest the WBA may sanction a fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua as a title bout, which could affect Gassiev's championship status. Gassiev stated he has no clear information regarding this situation.
