Wales' rugby union team has named Dewi Lake as captain for the upcoming Nations Championship, with Jac Morgan set to provide support throughout the tour. The decision sees Lake, who has played alongside Morgan for both the Ospreys and Wales, take on the captaincy role in the absence of Morgan, who suffered a dislocated shoulder earlier this year.

Lake will lead Wales in their non-capped opener against Barbarians at the Allianz Stadium, as well as the three Nations Championship matches against Fiji, Argentina, and South Africa. In a statement, Lake said: 'Jac's an incredible leader, he's been unlucky with injury otherwise he'd still be in this role.' He added that the two players 'come as a pair' and that Morgan will continue to provide support throughout the tour.

The Nations Championship marks a new competition for Wales, and Lake is confident that the team is heading in the right direction under head coach Steve Tandy. 'We've spoken a lot about picking up from where we've left off,' he said. 'It's a new competition and we're expecting everyone to bring their best.'

Before their clash against Fiji on 4 July, Wales will head to London for a reunion with retiring great George North. Lake, who played with North for both the Ospreys and Wales, said: 'It's nice, but not nice, to go up against George. He's been an incredible operator for Wales.'

Why this matters: The Nations Championship is a new competition for Wales, and the team's performance in this tournament will be closely watched by rugby fans across the UK.

What this means for you: What this means for you: Whether you're a die-hard rugby fan or just interested in Wales' sporting performance, the outcome of the Nations Championship will be a major talking point in the UK.
