A charity in Wheaton Aston, Staffordshire, is using Wolverhampton Wanderers football socks to protect its donkeys from flies. Donkey E.A.R.S, a community interest company, received a donation of the iconic old gold socks from the Wolves Foundation.
Jo Wightman, director of Donkey E.A.R.S, stated that donkeys are significantly bothered by gnawing flies on their legs in summer. The size six to eight sports socks, which stay up well, cover their legs and help reduce vet bills for treating infected fly bites.
Donkey E.A.R.S aims to improve people's wellbeing through donkey-assisted activities, working with individuals with special educational needs and disabilities, those with dementia, social prescribers, and care homes.
